On July 21, 2023, we welcomed the opportunity to make a submission to the NSW Parliamentary
Inquiry into the Veterinary Workforce Shortage. Garry Putland and award-winning journalist Caroline Winter (Sick As
A Dog podcast) were subsequently invited to appear before the Portfolio Committee No.4 on Tuesday, 29 August 2023.

We received Recommendations from the Committee on June 30, 2024. The Government Response to
the Recommendations were released on Sept 30, 2024.
In April 2025, we appeared before the Joint Committee on the Mental Health of Wellbeing of Veterinarians. The
Parliament of South Australia appointed the Joint Committee last year and Sophie’s Legacy was instrumental in
getting this established, as detailed in the
In February, we submitted our response to the inquiry’s Terms of Reference, addressing key issues such as client
abuse and misconceptions about the industry, poor working conditions, transparency around pricing, preparing
veterinarians for the industry and reducing attrition

discussing potential solutions like award wages, transparent and fixed pricing, and workforce planning.
